All about Accra & Ghana is:
Accommodation-Big Milly's
Location:
On the west side of Accra , take the road to Winneba.
Just as you reach the outskirts of Accra on the left there is a sign post for Aplaku, take this road.
You should pass on the left the Liberty Hotel, and a big water tank on the right.
Carry on down the road you should go past the Crystal Atlantic resort on the right. Keep going for about another mile you should then pick up signs for big Milly's, which is at Kokrobite Beach. If in doubt get Emanuel to take you there (see tourist basicsTourist basics) Don't forget to tell him i want discount the next time I see him!
Ga fishing boat on Kokrobite beach, which as you can see is in pristine condition.
I don't know if it was just me but driving out from the west side of Accra with its hustle & bustle once we turned left at the Aplaku junction & up the road a bit, it suddenly seemed like we had entered into another world -one of calm with an unhurried atmosphere. Certainly i was in a relaxed mood by the time we got to Big Milly's only about 10-15 minutes from Aplaku junction.
Big Milly's is a superior version of Beachcomber (see links bottom of page), and is at a marvelous location being next to Kokrobite beach. The set up is of a compound consisting of several accommodation units, toilets, restaurant , car park, and recreational area. The compound is literally yards from the sea and you are at the start of the beach, from the restaurant you get a great view as it overlooks the beach & sea.
Accommodation double- simple clean and more than adequate
I guess it fair to say that Big Milly's target tourist is not the main stream tourists, who want five star hotel experience. It depends on want you want and how much you want to pay. The accommodation at Big Milly's is very reasonable to say the least.
The accommodation I had a look at was a double for $20 a night with en suite shower; as you can see its simple clean with a bright cheery look about it.
Most hotels and lodges are now in the range of $90 a night, Big Milly has accommodation from $4 to $40 a night, I think you will find that hard to beat.
Wendy & the staff were very friendly and easy going, that's probably the theme, relaxing easy going and a more intimate local experience.
In main restaurant looking out towards sea.
There are a few small shop kiosks on the beach adjacent to the restaurant, even they were laid back & not pushy. Staff mentioned that on Friday evenings there are cultural dancing displays, and on Saturdays they do a buffet and have a Reggae band.
