yes we know life sucks in the u.k, and you have to go back, but that's no reason to throw yourself out of the apartment window!

I first visited and stayed at the Beachcomber in 2006. I found to be a quite cosy little spot; included three to four attractive round block built huts, with thatched roofs, a small bar , beach and an apartment block.

The beach is only about 20 yards from the bar; and I found it to be quite unspoiled- The video track is short but should give you a fair idea as to the beach condition.

The huts were full at the time of our visit so we took one of the apartments. The apartment was functional enough although being self catering I expected a bit more on cutlery, and a bit better state of readiness- the fridge also wasn't switched on.

Away the shower worked ok, the view from the balcony was fantastic with a red sun over the sea at sun set and reminded me of the "Kinks Waterloo Sunset", and its a case of making the best of it.

Security was good with iron gates over the main entrance to the apartments. If you don't expect 5 star and don't mind taking it as it is, perhaps want an alternative to a hotel ,then you will find the Beachcomber a relaxing stay, and at a reasonable cost.

Billy Jane restaurant & bar 2009

Although the apartment was self catering as an alternative to cooking yourself there was a canvas covered open restaurant, called " Billy Jane " just yards away opposite which had reasonable beer, and very reasonable priced food.

That was back in around 2006 when they used to get a lot of trade from the then New Coco Beach hotel. Billy Jane must have done well out of the Coco Beach Hotel since now in 2009 its a two story building. Also the Coco beach has been taken over is now called the Ramada.

Since the editor hasn't stayed at Beachcomber since 2006, make phone enquires & check out the situation. My wife did phone them 2009,and they are still business, with the same owner

.

A very similar but superior complex, called "Big Milly ", with more going on can be found at beach area of Aplaku, on the west side of the Accra coast line.
