I stayed with my wife in Villa 3, Akotaa Villas from January 2nd 2009 till January 14th 2009. The overall experience was that if you have three or more small children around the ages 2-5, a Villa is superior to a hotel of four star. The reason is that enjoyment both for adults and children is interrelated.

Looking across pool to main gate and security lodge

If parents are stressed out this has a baring on the children, since you don't react to them as well as when relaxed. What I found with hotels is that children can get under your feet in a hotel room, they can cause embarrassment and disruption in the restaurant or reception. Its also difficult to switch off; since you must watch them all the time and can not rely on hotel reception to know who's children are who's, which adults are they supposed to be with and who is going out the front entrance.

With Akotaa Villas there was 24hr cover of staff with small number of staff on a shift turnover, so the night duty staff were the same each evening; and the same people for each day.

With only three apartments on the site staff got to know everybody very quickly, the only way in and out was through the main gate which was always shut unless staff opened it. You could also open the gate yourself on the pedestrian section & their was a metal ring as a means of closing the gate from the outside.

Security was tight in that I noticed they took the phone number and license plate of every taxi that came in & dropped of the holiday makers. What this meant was that you could switch off a bit since they were ok to run in and out the apartment and run safely around the compound since there was no way out except through the main gate which was manned and the swimming pool was fenced off.

The apartment was spacious with three bed rooms and we used one room for visitors over the holiday period with the father-in-law , and other relatives coming and staying over different days. The staff were quite Ok with this. The kitchen was fine for self catering with an upright frdge freezer

The swimming poll was exclusively for residents only so we didn't get that problem sometimes with hotels that have open access to the pool and find people jumping in on top off your kids!

The adjacent road which was a side road off Spintex wasn't much to look at, but to be honest you could say the same of 5 star hotels once you walk out around the corner. Anyway once in the compound it didn't matter since once in the compound you are in your own environment , the compound was neat, and the wall topped with decorative hedge hid anything adjacent.

Just opposite the compound was a small friendly bar which considering its small size had quite a range of drinks including the French aniseed liquor Pastis .Also some exotic ones called "Giddy Giddy" and "Pushy Pushy ".

View of kitchen

The location was good in being not far to the beach at Nungua and also convenient for the airport being about half an hour taxis drive away ,and the A and C Mall at Tetteh Quarshie about 15 -20 minutes depending on traffic. Sunday is a particularly good day to travel about.

Villas is of small access Rd from this road, which itself is off main Spintex Road

Mains electricity was backed up by a generator for each apartment which the staff got going during one "lights out" - this happens from time to time in Ghana .All in all I had no complaints about the Villa.

The price worked out about the same as hotel rates being $100 per night. Payment was via transferring funds into a British bank account, it didn't require sending funds to some unknown destination to Africa, the cynical among us will no what I'm getting at. The Account name was Mr E B Prempeh.if you book and find that's still the same owner then i could vouch that you will have no problems.
